ALTERNATIVES TO BANKRUPTCY If you are viewing bankruptcy as a last resort, you may want to discuss with our law firm alternatives to filing for bankruptcy protection before actually filing a petition. You should be cautioned, however, that while some people may ultimately benefit from negotiating a settlement with their creditors, this option is not for everyone. Rather than getting you out of debt, some of these options may have the opposite result, leading to total financial devastation. Therefore, any alternatives to filing for bankruptcy should be undertaken only after careful investigation and with an eye towards your future protection. One thing we seriously counsel any prospective debtor about, however, is debt consolidation through an agency as an alternative to bankruptcy. In our experience, this debt-restructuring plan ultimately results in bankruptcy anyway, with significant additional costs incurred.
